Silent film screening of ‘Phantom of the Opera’ with live organ improvisation
On Saturday 4 March at 7.30pm, Gloucester Cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music, Jonathan Hope, will improvise the soundtrack to the original Lon Chaney 1925 black and white silent film, Phantom of the Opera, on our world-famous Cathedral organ. Jonathan will be joined by silent film specialist Dr Jon Burrows, from Warwick University, who will give the audience some background information on this classic of the cinematic canon.
With dual screens, the audience can watch both the film and the organist while sitting back for the evening with a glass of wine or soft drink.
Tickets are £15, including a glass of wine, and are available from 0845 652 1823 (Mon-Fri 10.00am-4.00pm), in person from the Cathedral Gift Shop (Mon-Fri 10.00am-4.00pm), or on-line at www.gloucestercathedral.org.uk.
