Sunday & Late Night Openings at the Art Gallery & Museum
As a result of a visitor survey carried out earlier this
year, and due to public demand, Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum will be
opening on Sundays throughout the year, starting from 29 June 2008.
Summer opening times (April to October) will be from 10.00am – 5.00pm, and in the winter months
(November – March), 10.00am-4.00pm.
To kick off the new opening times, special creative art
activities for all ages will be held each Sunday throughout the summer, from
2.00-4.00pm (and also from 10.00am – 12 noon on the first Sunday, 29
June). These will be led by the Play
Rangers from Cheltenham Borough Council's Play Development team. There is no need to book for these free
events, just turn up on the day.
The Art Trolley will also be wheeling its way around the
galleries, holding an array of arty crafty materials for children (and
accompanying adults) to use to create their own piece of artwork based on our
exciting displays and exhibitions.
Also, as a result of the success of special evening openings
such as the Venetian Night, the Bollywood Night, and the Night of the Museums
events, there will also be late night opening until 8.00pm on the third Thursday of every month. Again, special events have been planned for
these evenings; on 17 July Quilty Pleasures – a rare opportunity to see the Art
Gallery & Museum's collection of historic quilts (a free event from 5.00pm
onwards); and on 21 August, to coincide with the exhibition Pedals to Petrol,
we are showing the cult classic film, Electra Glide in Blue (tickets £4.00,
film starts at 5.45pm).
Jane Lillystone, Museum & Arts Manager said:
"We are so pleased to be able to offer these extended
opening times to our visitors. It is
something we get asked about so often, and now we hope we can meet the public's
wishes".
