Roman Gladiator Arena at Chedworth Roman Villa this Father's Day
Visitors will be able to experience a Roman Gladiator Arena this Father’s Day weekend, Sat 18 and Sun 19 June, at Chedworth Roman Villa.
Chedworth is the best preserved Roman site in the Cotswolds and at the National Trust site Roman re-enactor group Legio II Augusta are recreating Roman entertainment traditions with their Gladiator Arena. There is plenty of fun to be had by the whole family with a wide range of activities taking place over the weekend. Visitors are invited to take part in demonstrations, browse a variety of stalls, talk to Roman soldiers and even sell their parents as Roman slaves.
At the Gladiator Arena visitors will be able to see distinctive displays of Roman martial arts, which are still fascinating to modern audiences. Roman tunics will be available to dress up in to take part in gladiator fights and there will also be children’s craft activities.
Sigute Barniskyte-Kidd, National Trust Visitor Services Co-ordinator at Chedworth Roman Villa, says, ‘The Father’s Day Gladiator Arena highlights the beginning of a summer of family events at the Villa. We are excited that Legio II Augusta is returning to Chedworth Roman Villa for an action packed weekend of displays, demonstrations and opportunities for all our visitors to join in with the might of Rome.’
Normal admission prices apply, with an additional charge for selected events. More information is available via the website.
